What is Counselling Psychology?

Counselling Psychology is an area of specialism within professional psychology that maintains a focus on facilitating personal and interpersonal functioning across the life span. During therapy sessions, you can expect to discuss and explore a variety of difficulties with Leslie, such as difficulties with adjusting to or coping with different life stages (becoming a parent, relationship change or transitions, taking on a new role in work or at home, transitioning into working life after studies, etc.), difficulties with various psychological difficulties (such as depression, general anxiety and stress, low self-esteem, overcoming trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety, health anxiety, worry, burnout, and more), or difficulties with current relationships (whether attending sessions individually or as a couple).

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy? (CBT)

CBT is a short-term, evidence based treatment mainly focused on the different factors (internal psychological factors such as thinking styles, cognitive processes and emotional responses, as well as behavioural factors such as unhelpful coping strategies or a lack of helpful and healthy coping strategies, and physical factors such as loss of energy or illness) which maintains your difficulties. CBT is an active, present moment focused treatment, which will encourage clients to engage in helpful between-session tasks to enhance the outcome of your treatment.

What is Couple therapy for depression?

For couples who are struggling with depression in one (or both) of the relationship partners, couple therapy might be a solution. Couple therapy aims to provide a supportive and non-biased environment where the couple can come to new understanding of their relationship and work together to create a relationship dynamic that is safer and more ideal for both. Couple therapy looks at different traps or polarisations that the couple may become stuck in, and help the couple develop deeper insight into their experience as well as that of their partner.

What should I expect from sessions?
